As we have often seen after SIHH, Officine Panerai tends to release new models throughout the year to keep us on our toes. These pieces were part of the unofficial release at SIHH. Pictures surfaced all over the internet but no documentation or information was available at the time. Thankfully today we got the actual release and documentation on these stunning pieces. Both pieces are 42mm 1950’s cases with the beautiful hobnail textured dial. Commonly known in the horology world as “Clous de Paris” or “Nails of Paris” – the Paris Hobnail dial features a guilloché pattern of hollowed lines that intersect to form tiny pyramidal shapes which are inspired by the streets of paris.
I like the direction that Panerai is taking in introducing the 42mm 1950’s cases. I personally know a lot of people that think the 44mm case is a bit large for them because of the thick nature of the 1950’s case. By introducing these models they are opening up a new range of buyers in my opinion. At 42mm this could be the perfect oversized case for the ladies.

Just purchased on Pan 535 & am really digging it!!! I have been a Rolex loyalist but was attracted to the Panerai because of it’s RICH tradition & classic design. I originally purchased & returned a 44 MM Pan & found it to be too large for my wrist. The 42mm is ideal & the hobnail dial makes this watch Stunning!!
If you are considering a Panerai please consider either the 535 or 537. I liked the 535 over the 537 because the dial was less busy & I did not see a need for the power reserve on the face.
Cheers!
I am considering getting the 535, how have you like it so far? Did you consider the PAM 392, with the sandwich dial?
