2023 is the year of the Radiomir at Watches and Wonders. As we have seen in years past, Panerai has recently focused on a specific line as their focus in terms of new releases and novelties. In 2023, they pay homage to their roots and bring out an array of new Radiomir pieces that will have the true Paneristi as well as new fans of the brands singing it’s praises in my opinion.
The first piece that I want to talk about is one that hits a chord with me since as many of you might know, I’m in love with Cali dials. There have been a few different versions of the Cali dials throughout the years, but I think this latest one might open my pocketbook up a bit.
Enter the PAM1349 which not only carries the torch for the California dial within the Panerai family, I think it burns the flame to a new level. For the first time ever we have a 45mm case size for the Cali. We know historically they have always produced the Cali Dial Radiomir in a 47mm, but this now opens the doors to a whole new set of collectors who weren’t always eager to put on the larger beast.
Not only is the size of the case a first, but so is the material and finish of it. The new Brunito eSteel is a brand-new finish which gives the timepiece am antiquated look which when you pair it with the green Cali dial, elevate the watch to the next level. Every single case is hand finished one by one to give it this seasoned look and character. Because of this no two pieces will ever be the same.
The eSteel, as with other pieces in the collection uses next-generation technology to use recycled steel (up to %95) to create the case. The eSteel is part of Panerai’s partnership with IOC-UNESCO to develop solutions with the goal of creating more sustainability in production of their watches and accessories.
Staying true to it’s vintage predecessors, the PAM1349 features a domed plexiglass crystal. The watch also features a cone shaped crown which distinguishes the Radiomir collection amongst all the other models.
This beautifully created vintage look if paired with a supple calf leather Ponte Vecchio raw cut strap with 3 points seams in dark brown and contrast stitching. The strap also features a detail that is exclusive to only this particular timepiece. It has a hot printed inscription of G. Panerai e Figlio, the exact same phrase that is found on the signage of the original Panerai workshop in Florence.
Powering this beauty is a hand wound P.5000 Calibre movement with an 8 day power reserve. The iconic movement is visible thanks to an open case back and sapphire crystal.
The Panerai PAM1349 Radiomir California dial is only available at Panerai Boutiques worldwide at a price of $12,300 USD.
